Elbert Barton, Sr. was the second child and son born to Floyd and Ellen Barton in 1859 in Macon, Georgia.
On December 28, 1882 he married Alice Vinson, daughter of Ben and Laura Vinson. Elbert was the father of four children, however it is not known if their mother was Alice or another lady named Lula.
According to one family member, Elbert’s wife fell off of a wagon on New Years day as she was attempting to climb on it. The family was about to move to another location. As a result of the fall, he died and the four known sons were split up among other relatives. Elbert, Jr. was taken in by his Aunt Gillian. He is listed with them on the 1900 census for Telfair County as adopted. The other sons were assumedly taken in by their father’s brother Tom. Their names were Gentle, Artis and Brannam (sic.)
Elbert was listed as being born in May of 1891. According to some family members, Elbert married a young lady from lumber City, and they moved to Perry, Florida.
Gentle Barton registered for the draft in 1917 for World War 1. He listed his date of birth as March 5, 1891 and he was born in Walden, Georgia. He is listed as single, short with black eyes, black hair, medium built and the father of three children.
Nothing is known about the other brothers, their whereabouts or any family members living. It is hoped that the descendants of this branch of the family will be found, just as the descendants of Henry, Gillian and Lula Barton were found.
